My Mother's Birthday

March 8 is my mother's bithday. That was Monday, and I did not forget. She would have been 100 this year if she had lived this long.

Tommy was busy on Monday, while I stayed in the bed most of the day. He washed four loads of clothes, three of mine and one of his, dried my clothes that needed drying, and brought in the other clothes I wanted to dry inside. He went through a lot of his belongings and threw away lots.

He made himself a salad while I managed to heat the cooked chicken for his dinner.

On Sunday, I asked him to find his own dinner. He went to refrigerator and came back with a huge plate of food. He found a box of romaine and one of spinach, the grape tomatoes, dressing, cheese, and rolls. I heated some meatballs and insisted he have some. I was quite surprised when he told me he stacked all the salad items in one stack so it would be easier for me to find.

He has gone about the house, keeping things as nice/neat as they were and even improving a few places. Plus, he gets anything I need. If he thinks I need something, he volunteers to get it. I have forgotten what else he has done today. Some things I did not see him do, but he told me.

After he cleaned the stainless steel sink, he showed me how he cleaned the counter behind it. He did only wipe it with a paper towel, so it needs actually using at least water...lol.

My ear is getting one little sore that is visible. Before, places hurt, but nothing was visible. My outer ear hurts. There are tingly places on one section of my scalp, my scalp seems swollen in the same places, It feels like there are sores on outside of my ear. And, the little swollen place inside my ear canal is swollen once again. I suppose that I will go back to the ENT. I hope this does not get worse.

I looked through both purses for Tommy's cc, and it was nowhere. Finally, I asked Tommy if he looked in my bag we carry to the car. He looked and his cc was in there. I suppose I let it slip when I was holding it. So, mystery solved.

The person who will clean called to see if I wanted her and when and how I was feeling. She seems like the nicest person I have talked with about cleaning.

He is very willing to help do cleaning chores that he and I can do. I made the statement that everything we clean is something he does not have to pay to be cleaned. I think that made him think!

I have been hiccupping for weeks now, several sessions each day, like a dozen episodes that last about ten minutes, sometimes longer, sometimes not.

Typing is tiring me.

Daylight Savings Time will make me so happy! Are you looking forward to DST?

All the above was written Monday night, so today, Tuesday, I am a tiny bit better since the pain in my ear is gone.

  1. Your ear pain sounds awful. That is so nice Tommy is helping you. I found that once I started keeping things neat and clean, it's much easier to keep it that way.

    1. One,
He has been helpful! Yes, I had it organized and he works to keep it that way, thankfully. I think he appreciates having order in the refrigerator and wants to keep it that way. If this is a mild case of shingles in my ear, I would hate to have a bad case of shingles!

  2. So sorry you are dealing with shingles. I had them three times in 1 1/2 years and none since thank goodness.

Sounds like Tommy is enjoying the progress you have made on the house and wants to help which is great. I don't know if he does this or not but my husband has to tell me everything he does and seems to expect praise. lol. I think it is funny that women just do what needs to be done and men need a pat on the back. Take care and hoping you feel better soon.

    1. Crystal,
At least this is not the infected, extremely painful kind, just a mild case, doctor said. Did you get another shingles vaccine?

He does enjoy the progress and the cleanliness. Yes, he does tell me everything he does. They do so little and want everyone to know when they do something! Yes, it is funny. I do feel a bit better this Tuesday evening. Thanks.

    2. Never got another shingles vaccine. My immunologist advised against it until my immune system improves more which it has done steadily for the last two + years. I see the immunologist in may for my yearly tests.
Take care and hoping this all passes quickly for you.

    1. Ann,
I told Tommy I had said how much he has done and then read your comment to him. He grinned big and laughed.

  5. Shingles is a terribly painful prolonged virus. I am sure the hiccups are related.

I will check on the connection. Thanks. Remember, I have nothing visible, but it is still painful.

I checked online, and yes, hiccups and shingles are related.

    1. Anne,
Thanks. So do I. Tomorrow, I will call the ENT for appointment or some sort of relief.

  7. OMG, I've been reading about your ear issue now for awhile and commiserating with you from afar. Now the penny just dropped when you said your ear was also swelling. I've had that symptom now for a very long time. I hope I don't have what you have. I never did get a check up because Covid happened just at the time I met with one specialist. The specialist wanted a 2nd opinion. It wasn't about the swelling though it was about a cyst growing at the back of the same ear. I'm very sorry to hear about all your issues. I can certainly empathize and I hope you get some real relief soon.

    1. Joyful,
I have had a little swelling inside my ear, toward the back and not down where the eardrum is located. Of course, that is separate from the whole ear swelling. Have you had any of the other symptoms, like the tingling scalp and such?

    2. I have so many different symptoms that I tend to ignore most of them because I can only deal with one thing at a time. I get a lot is nausea, ear swelling, itch and scaliness, cysts, dizziness from time to time. I don't know if these are related or different things and it doesn't seem like I'm going to get an appointment any time soon. Maybe I'll to start all over again post Covid.

The doctor seems to think I have gall bladder trouble. However, I just read that a new pill can cause nausea. I try not to think about why I feel like I am going to throw up. It sounds a lot like my shingles symtoms for you. I really do try to ignore lots of silly symptoms.

  8. That's what I'm beginning to think too. I havent had the vaccine for it. I thought I would get it eventually. I hope you feel better soon. I totally understand about ignoring symptoms because there is only so much we can deal with at a given time.

    1. Joyful,
Some others on here call for me to get the covid test and quarantine myself. But, these symptoms are just regular for me all my life it seems.

    2. I understand. While mine have not been going on for quite as long, they do predate Covid. Though these days they seem more persistent. I just carry on doing the best I can. I see you also do your best.

    3. Joyful,
Mine are precovid and have been worse the last 30 years, so not all my life. I do carry on the best I can. Thanks.
