Rain and More Rain

The Cymbalta seems to be affecting me more, like it is building up in my body. I don't know. But it is almost 5 pm and I have slept most of last night and most of today, about 12 hours. Today is the day I am supposed to double the dose. But, I did not. Well, I am supposed to add a dose for morning.

I read that hummingbirds don't like it when rain gets in the feeder and dilutes the sugar water. The woman said she covers her feeders. Well, that won't be happening. Or, she moves them under cover. Maybe the rain will let up.

The new feeder cost $4 and arrived today. It is cheaply built, but I have figured out how to make a feeder for free. The cheap one will work. I have to be more cognizant of the different aspects of construction.

It seems I only manage to eat dinner every day, so I have lost weight, not much, but enough to be encouraging. And, my affect is gone, depressed. I never smile, get upset, or feel anything. Even when something is funny, I cannot imagine a laugh. I just say, "That's funny."

Has anyone else take Cymbalta and had a similar reaction. or any experience? This is two full weeks and it seems I am not adjusting at all. If you don't want to comment here, you can email me at

  1. I haven't taken Cymbalta but I Google and it says some side effects are tiredness and changes to sleep patterns. If it was me I would talk to the pharmacist to see whether these aude effects will abate or whether they can somehow be minized. I would also talk to my doctor about the dosage because it doesn't sound like you need more. I wasn't quite sure if you are saying the medication is numbing you or leading to depression. Maybe tgere is another medicine or some natural alternatives to what you are doing. All the best as you navigate.

    1. Joyful,
I don't think I am depressed. I mean flattened affect. Since I am always tired and my sleep patterns don't seem to be predictable, it is hard to say. I called the pharmacist and did not find out much. I also read about the med.

  2. Medications are so hard to adjust to. It always seems like the side effects are as bad as what you are trying to treat for. At least that has always seemed my dh's case with meds. And then it was well, here, now add another medication to offset the bad side effects of this one. It seemed a never ending cycle.

    1. One,
There are side effects that I do not want! And, I just could not take another med. I drank a Coke with caffeine last night to get some "umph" in me...lol. I suppose that was a med.

  3. I hope you can figure out what the Cymbalta is doing and can get it to work for you. The hummingbirds are so beautiful. I have my feeder under cover, but just because it sits under our porch roof.

    1. Belinda,
Thanks. I am going to put one on the porch, just sitting. Maybe it will get less rain. We have no hooks and neither of us can get up there to install hooks.

  4. Well I guess getting plenty of sleep is a definite positive, and losing weight (if that's what you want) but it certainly sounds hard being so "flat". I hope it works out better for you soon!

    1. Treaders,
Oh, I need sleep and need to lose over 100 pounds. But, the flat affect is very disconcerting. Thanks.

  5. I have fatigue issues but do okay taking mine in the morning. If it makes you tired- Id see if you could take it early evening perhaps and use the "benefits" to help you get a full nights sleep. Also, there are at home sleep studies now that are awesome.. and home sleep training for "adults" that have helped me with my sleep patterns. I also take modafonil to stay awake. All crazy- but I've found success Good luck

    1. Unknown,
I do take mine in the evening. And, it seems to help with sleep, but all day sleeping. I am going to ask about the sleep studies. Thanks a lot.

    2. Here is a link to the Hummingbird feeder at Walmart. Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to make it a clickable link. I imagine you know how to copy /paste.

It is certainly not fancy but it is super easy to clean.

    3. Janet,
Thanks. I will never buy one like the two I bought!

  6. Linda, the problem with many good medications is the fact that many of them take several weeks to achieve the desired results. Back in the 1990s while in the midst of an amical divorce I began taking an antidepressant. I knew it could take up to 6 weeks to work properly and I had a miserable time working through the first 3+ weeks. I stuck with it and before I knew it I was feeling 100% better.

    1. Janet,
I could not live 6 weeks because my physical condition was deteriorating. I almost fell carrying a knife several times. I could not think or make decisions. He asked me to take it for three weeks.
