How You Do Anything is How You Do Everything.

I am just too ill to type or think.

"How you do anything is how you do everything."

I will tell you about my thoughts on this idea when I feel much better.

What does the title of this post mean to you? Do you agree?

How have you found this out about someone?

  2. I think there is a kernel of truth to this - and a warning.
If one approaches things with immediate negativism or anxiety one is apt to do so with everything.
It is hopes we can approach everything if curiosity for the potential.

    1. Urspo,
I was not approaching this from the attitude angle. But, that is good. I was approaching it from the work ethic, honesty, trustworthiness of the person.

I was thinking of the process and how people observe others and know what to expect.

  5. I am thinking you have been let down again by the person that said he would help fix things around the house. Help you and Tommy inside and outside. Yes, they will help but in exchange for as much cash as they can get out of you.

    1. Texas,
I have not called him. I was ill the day I talked with him. I came to my senses and decided not to get anyone who was not licensed and bonded. Tommy said that is what he was thinking. I am not sure what he will do.

    2. I think that is a good idea. For some things you need to make sure you are covered. You don't want someone on the property that could pretend an injury. You do not want someone in the house that could just be checking to see if they could rob you or take advantage. There are so many people out there that want to prey on older people. I am very careful as to who is on my property or in my home. If you need help in the home I would use a company for that purpose, bonded and insured. They may seem higher in cost but they would do a good job and to your instructions. Just be upfront about what you need and expect. Put it in writing. Do not ask for assistance out side your lists. You will be more satisfied with the outcome for the money spent. They will come in and do the required cleaning per your contract. Clean the kitchen, fridge, stove, microwave, vacuum and mop, dust, clean ceiling fans and other fans. Change air filters, put in light bulbs as needed (I have recessed lighting.) clean the baths, change bedding if you need help. Be as specific as you can. You might need them once a month or less. Look into hiring a lawn service that will do it all, mow, edge, trim the bushs etc. Again, make a list of what you need. I use one but they only come once every two weeks. There will be some things that you can do on your own. I just accept the fact there are certain things that I can't do with safety any longer. It is what we must do to remain independent and stay in our homes safe and secure. I do worry so about the two of you.

    4. Nope, not getting cleaning service. They wanted to send four men out with one in my bedroom. I want cabinets cleaned out--items in cabinets out, 40-yr old paper stuck on by people who sold him the house, cabinets washed out and new shelf paper. No one wants to do work by hour, they want to zip through quickly, paid by the hour. Then, they will be annoyed that I need them to keep cleaning or have them redo before I pay. Also, they clean by number of sq ft in house even if I only want one room cleaned up. They are gauging how much money we can afford even when I tell them I will pay by hour--$15/hour.

    5. Sorry Linda, I was just trying to help.
Things must be different in your part of the US than where I am at. If you need the cabinets cleared out, cleaned and new shelf paper the only thing I could suggest is doing it on your own. I have done it, not easy. One cabinet at a time, may take a year but you can get it done, things are harder with a hip replacement but sometimes you have to struggle to get things done. The reality is once we are older and can't do things, we have to accept what is available to help us get by. The alternative is assisted living or a nursing home. I face the reality of aging and my health everyday. You and
Tommy will face the same, we never want to think we would be there but it is the truth. Be more accepting of the help you can get or be prepared to make changes that can't be avoided. I know you will be mad at me, that is okay, I just want you to be able to stay in your home as long as possible.

  6. Nah, I don't think that's true. Not every task is worth the same level of effort.

    1. Thanks Sue, I do not think Linda is listening and understanding what I am trying to say.

  7. I disagree entirely. As Sue said, not every task is worth the same level of effort. For instance, my house is generally spotless, but my car is not, not at all. I put far more effort into courses in my major, than I did in several Gen. Ed. courses in which I had no interest. Some days, my meals warrant rave reviews, other days the best thing about them is that they were hot.

    1. Meg,
I actually cared as much about all courses as I did major course. If I clean the car, I don't just give it a lick and a promise, I actually give it the same effort as cleaning in the house.

    2. I made the mistake of taking a contemporary fiction class to fill an elective, thinking it would be enjoyable. NO. Oh, no. After the first novel, I just gave up caring. All I cared was that I get a "B."
