Insurance and Pecan Pie

We were told that the insurance company would mail us a list of "approved" body shops. We called last night and left a message that we had gotten no such email. Yes, I checked spam and trash. Today, after checking again, Tommy called and talked with someone who said we would receive the email in 15 minutes. We will see.

Today, we did nothing. I watched the memorial for Kim's husband, Joel. It was emotional and funny, very informative.

Today, the plan is to make a pecan pie. Hopefully, I have a deep dish crust in the freezer. If not, Tommy will go into Publix and buy one.

About noon today, I had an idea. I had Tommy ask a neighbor who should know about these things where we could get someone to do a quick fix on the bumper by pushing or pulling the portion where it won't scrub the wheel. Well, the guy somehow pushed back the piece of bumper and screwing it where it will stay there and not scrub the tire. Hopefully, the fix lasts until we can get it permanently repaired. It appears we will have a brand-new bumper on this raggedy car. Neither he nor I am bothered by the car's appearance since it runs well and is clear of debt. Besides, he runs into things, so a new car body would soon be scuffed and dented.

Okay, at 4pm, we still have not received the email promised a half hour ago. He is on the phone! Now, they are promising, once again, it will be 15 or 20 minutes. Okay, an email arrived with four "approved" shops. However, I do know we can chose our own, so we will work with someone who is a friend, someone with whom I have had a long friendship and working relationship. This has the possibility of a better outcome for Tommy.

However, the shop is not answering the phone, too late in the day, I suppose. I always answered my office phone but other people switched their phone to the answering machine. How rude.

Wednesday night, I could not get to sleep and than back to sleep for a new reason. I had put on panties in the afternoon that seemed to fit wrong. I struggled through the evening with a tight fit. It was hard to get comfortable to sleep. When I did sleep and wake, it was a struggle to get the tight panties comfortable. So, I got up and changed into a new pair that were just heaven. Today, Thursday, I am struggling because I had too little sleep.

I remember now that when I got this pair and washed them, they felt like all elastic was too tight. Thinking I removed them from all I wear, somehow, they are back. How many things can I find that make me lose sleep??? Ugh I suppose wearing too tight panties are as good an excuse as any.

We are going to bake a pecan pie after the news and before dinner. The cooking and cooling time is a long time, so want it to cool enough so that I can at least cool it. I wonder if Swerve would work for this pie.

What strange reason have you had for not going to sleep or staying asleep?

Do you like pecan pie? I have eaten well for two days preparing for this experience.

Is car repair a pain for you?

  1. I am not a fan of pecan pie, but I love pecan tarts. I don't make them though as my son Jacob is allergic to pecans. I hope you can get some sleep tonight. I hate dealing with car repairs. They are such an inconvenience.

    1. I am so happy I am not allergic to pecans as they are my favorite nut. Some nuts I am allergic to, many nuts. Dealing with insurance and car repairs is the worst.

  2. I am not a fan of pecan pie but I love pecans. I often add them on top of pumpkin and chocolate pies but that is just me.

I have problems sleeping just like you! If I am not comfortable in my night wear that will not work. If I find something something restricting it comes right off and goes to the trash can. I have found that the underwear I buy in the right size, sometimes a pair is tighter than the rest. If it just one, I throw it away, more than that I would take the whole package for exchange. Things can get mixed up at the factory, I will tolerate one but if all are wrong I will not.

I do not like nightgowns, I prefer oversized cotton tee shirts, summer and winter for sleeping. The sleeping problem, I think I can't shut my brain off and I have a lot of anxiety. I have prescribed sleeping pills but they don't help when I am worried about something.

Car repair is a challenge for anyone, finding the right shop, getting a rental if covered by insurance, and then you have the waiting time. It always takes longer than they promise. I will say it is nice when you pick up the car. The shop I use cleans the outside and inside so well, it is like getting a new car. I use Caliber Collision, I don't know if they are available in Alabama. They have always done a good job. The repairs were done due to others hitting my car, the others insurance paid for my rental and repairs but let me choose from a list of shops. This is the one I like.

Not that you mentioned but now is the time to watch for clearance sales on hams and turkeys left over from the holidays. I got a honey spiral sliced ham at .85lb for the freezer. I am watching the turkey breast for mark down. You and Tommy should check that out. I have been checking every time I go to the store if you have the freezer space.

    1. I cannot stand tshirt type nightclothes. Gowns summer and winter are my choice. I was prescribed something for sleep, but it takes until the next evening to feel normal.
I never had my car detailed when repaired. He did not pay for rental!
      We are watching for sales.

  3. I watched the memorial as well - Joel was quite an accomplished man.
I love pecan pie - really my favorite pie. I can't eat too much, because of the sweetness - but I do like it.
I am like Texas - I wear a large t-shirt to bed. I do not like night gowns at all - they get all wrapped around me - and that will keep me awake. My mind not slowing down keeps me awake or if I eat anything after about 7PM.

  4. Cheryl,
We will eat this over many days because of the sugar content, but we could eat it in one day. Well, I could, but Tommy could hold off. In the last few years I have only gotten wrapped up in my gown once. I had to get out of bed to get straight. Otherwise, I lie down and never move.

  5. Sometimes wind rattling the windows can keep me from falling asleep. Deadlines of having to have something done by a certain time make it hard for me to sleep, if the air is too dry in the house making my nose itch and sniffle, that will keep me up. I prefer slick silky knee length nightgowns to sleep in, but right now it is cold so I also have two long sleeve loose cotton tee shirts layered over the nightgown. Since I am getting ready to sleep, (this is going to sound nuts) I have the shirts turned inside out because their seams bother me. The nightgown keeps the seams on the sides of my body from irritating, but the tee shirt sleeves seams are rough-ish on my arms. I only notice the seams at night when I am trying to get comfortable to sleep, not during the rest of the day or night. I think I become hypersensitive to skin sensation when I am trying to get comfortable for sleep. A doctor or especially a dentist appointment is happening the next day is a recipe for insomnia for me.. It makes my mind race even more than normal when I want to sleep
I have also noticed that if I can't fall asleep before 10 in the morning, I might as well forget about it for the day, and I will need to nap in the evening.
Another thing that interferes with falling asleep for me is if I eat something that makes my blood sugar rise before going to bed.
My sleeping issues became very bad during the time that my Graves disease was real bad, right before it was diagnosed. Thyroid issues take a toll on sleep, sometimes either a person is too sleepy or can't sleep, if they have thyroid issues going on.
Luckily, once I fall asleep, I sleep like a log for at least 4 to 6 hours straight unless something wakes me.
Your pecan pie sounds so good to me. Pecan pie is one treat that is worth the money and time to make it. I wonder how long it will be before my teeth holes let me eat a pecan pie, one that the filling doesn't have too much stick to it-ness. I missed the little fruitcakes that have pecans in them that we always get at Christmas. Now, if after all of these weeks of not eating much, if I go and get weighed at the doctor's office and I have lost only 2 lbs or even gained weight, I will be mad.
    Have a great day!

    1. susie,
There are so many things that interfere with my sleep! But, I have never noticed seams. Watch now, seams will begin to bother me! I like silky, nylon gowns, but they have to stretch. A silky gown that does not stretch is not good for me. No matter what it is, I cannot feel bound in any way.
Anything that will happen in the morning causes me to lose sleep, not just doctor appointments. I am anxious about anything in the morning, fearing i will not sleep, and then I don't sleep.
I do have thyroid problems, so when I can have my thyroid out, I hope sleep issues will be resolved.
When I fall asleep, I, too, sleep soundly and never move.
How long does the doctor expect you will have to refrain from certain foods?

  7. My thyroid had to be treated with Radioactive Iodine, and that just kills off part of the thyroid, They don't want to kill off the whole thing. I don't know if I would have it done again. I don't know if they do actual thyroid removal surgery anymore using cutting methods. I don't know how exacting they can be with thyroid surgery. Be sure and study up on it really well before having it done, and have an excellent endocrinologist working with you.
Now a lot of people take some type of pill that controls the thyroid activity. I had to take it before I was able to have my thyroid ablated by radioactive iodine because my heart beat was extremely fast, and with my asthma they could not give me another medicine that some people can take, because it would have given me asthma problems, my asthma specialist said no. My sleep still isn't right, my heartrate is normal, except for the occasional atrial fibrillation, but I still have anxiety and sleep problems, which I know came along with the thyroid disease.
I don't want anything else to do with that dental surgeon and his front office again, so I am just taking it real easy with those tooth holes as they get less tender, I am able to eat a little bit tougher food. They have improved a lot just this week. The infection in them kept them sorer longer I think.

    1. I only know I had half my thyroid removed about 20 years ago. There were nodules that were the type that turn cancerous. I have no idea what the plan will be this time.
You can go to another dental surgeon for answers. My tooth hole was tender for a long time, it seems. I went back with pain and he found a piece of plastic in the hole and asked me where it came from. How do I know? lol

  8. I love pecan pie. I do not care for it with bourbon in it, though. I also love chocolate pecan pie. I made chocolate chip pecan pie for Thanksgiving and DS and I enjoyed narrow slices (because it's so rich and sugary) for nearly a week. But honestly, I'd rather have the kind where the chocolate is thoroughly blended into the filling.

I have not been sleeping well either. I'm sure it's because I'm not going for my usual walks. My expensive new Asics arrived today. I will check out the fit and see how they feel. I have super sensitive feet and usually have to try on several pairs of the same size before I can find a right and a left that feel "right." Of course no local stores sell the dang variety of shoe that I need. Online only. I feel like I'm screwed before I even get them on my feet. How's that for optimism?

Barking dogs make me want to perpetuate violence on their owners. I envision blasting an air horn at their house every time the dog starts barking. Wouldn't that be satisfying?

I am also a fussy sleeper. If my feet get too hot, I wake up and have to pull the comforter off them (but I have to leave the flannel sheet on them, lest they get cold. I like the room to be about 63 degrees. And even though we have furnace-mounted humidifiers, I like a more humid environment for winter sleeping so I run a small humidifier by my side of the bed. 45-50% humidity is good.

I guess all this fussing makes me high maintenance! So be it...

    1. Sue,
I don't think I am high maintenance at all, just need to NOT have a dog or dogs right outside my window barking relentlessly. However, I am not one to order shoes unless I have already worn those shoes. I usually just go in a store and get what I need without trying them on if I have worn that style before, like the pink sandals. I did try them on when I got home since I did not go inside, just picked up curbside. My son and I both have socks issues as the sock has to be arranged and rearranged on the foot. It is just the way we are.
I arrange everything for sleep and temperature cannot be too warm. The humidity is not an issue that I have found.
A brother of a friend could sit down in a chair in a room full of company, lean his head back and he was asleep when his head hit the chair. We always watched him sleep and marveled at his ease of sleeping.
If I were a lawbreaker or one who would perpetuate violence, the dog would be in trouble. If I thought an airhorn would make it all stop, I would be out there blasting away with an airhorn. Just my luck I would be arrested for my noise.

  9. Sue, I also have super sensitive feet. I mainly wear Birkenstock sandals. I also have the problem of almost no shoe company makes my size. I am a 10.5 There are half sizes up to 10 where they jump right to 11. A 10 touches the end of my toes and I can't keep an 11 on my feet.

I am a creature of habit. I wear a man's sleeveless t shirt and panties to bed unless I am a guest in someone's home. Last night it was chilly and I thought I would just sleep in the shirt I had on. I slipped off my bra and got in bed. I could not sleep, or if I did doze off I woke in just a couple of minutes. Finally I pulled off that 3/4 sleeve t-shirt and slept peacefully the rest of the night.
