Today, we went for Tommy's milk and Romaine for me, well, for both of us. But, I am the one who misses it. Of course, today is the day to get the ads. I only found one thing--Kraft Medium Cheddar Cheese, four chunks of 8 oz each, for for $10. At $2.50 each, that is the best price in a long time. So, we got four chunks.
The farmer's market was within 30 minutes of closing, so we bought yellow squash for $5. I purchased a lemonade strawberry drink. It was delicious. Tommy hates lemonade, so I cannot induce him to try it, but that is just more for me.
I am searching for someone to empty the freezer with Tommy and I helping to get it sorted. There are somethings that need to be tossed, bananas, for one. And, there are things we do not want. The turkey is too much for us to handle! There may be two. Even though they were dirt cheap, we will never buy another turkey. We cannot bend to get this all picked up. We have to get it done quickly and not rest or stop.
There is one person who might help, but he is interested in me, and not in a nice way. I am not in for having "fun." I am not a carnival ride. So, Tommy does not want him around. He is not jealous, just does not like his attitude.
Today, I received 10 of my 12 sets of wings but they are half finished. That is another thing I need--a carpenter with right saw. That is a good news/bad news situation.
The Double Q Salmon is still not in. The raincheck is only good for 10 more days.
The temperature will be 97 all week, so this is a normal summer for us! Of course, we take precautions so as not to become overheated and overexposed to the heat. The thoughts of going to Death Valley were completely forgotten after my heart complications. I need to cruise to a hospital not to Death Valley. It would probably just cool off before I arrived.
I am trying strategies to get myself asleep earlier. Last night, I managed to sleep before 8 am. I will keep working on this.
It appears that upon further examination, that the Kraft Cheese deal is the only thing that interests us in the three store ads. Too bad. I need another bscb sale.
We will cut the tiny watermelon tonight! Or else!
Dinner: We each had 1/4th of the ham slice. It was over 1/2 inch thick. Tomorrow night, we can eat the other for dinner. Tommy had two small pieces of potato. We both had a salad with the Romaine and the tomato from the guy sitting at his curb selling tomatoes I figured came from Finley's market. No matter, the tomato was summery delicious. We kept forgetting to buy salad, so I was desperate for salad greens.
Any sales at stores in your area this week?
The only good sale was at Ingles where they had 8 ounce bags of shredded cheese for $1.49. I prefer the blocks like you were able to get and it’s a long drive to Ingles, so I’ll just forget about it unless we end up driving that way for some reason before the sale ends.
ReplyDeleteBelinda,
DeleteUsually those ads show only the bags or blocks but both are on sale. I wonder. I wanted a bag of Italian Blend of the Kraft, but that is the only cheese they did not have! I put it in the taco soup since I don't like the Mexican Blend. That is a really good price, though. Maybe you can get some. I would call the store and ask is the blocks on sale, too.
Good luck getting the freezer emptied! When I emptied my two upright freezers recently it took me five hours with a hairdryer and a scraper and I ended up throwing a ton of stuff. I was so mad at myself, but at least now it's done and sorted!
ReplyDeleteTreaders,
DeleteThis is upright and frost-free. So, it will not take long and will not need a fan, dryer, or scraper. We cannot empty it and sort. I will just sit on my walker while someone takes it out and Tommy and I put it in appropriate bins. I will throw out bananas and give away turkeys. The rest, I expect I will keep. But, who knows until is taken out. I wish a blogger nearby would do the taking out stuff, even if they don't want the food but want to give it to people who need it. Hey, I just thought of the last idea. I really don't want to advertise and have a stranger come in here.
Treaders,
DeleteGrowing up, I watched Mama use a pan of hot water in the bottom of the freezer and a fan sitting in front to get the ice out. We just slid the ice off, no scraping. Maybe you can use a fan next time. At least you will not have to tend to holding a hairdryer.
There was only a couple items on good sale here - and I have more than plenty of them already.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to your cleaning lady you had? Haven't heard her mentioned in a long while.
Cheryl,
DeleteShe was a volunteer who would not take money. She came every Sunday unless her husband or kids or her were ill. She went to CA and he is now busy on Sunday, so nothing from her. I have meant to text her as phone takes no voice mails.
Oh dear, I am sorry to hear about your heart complications! What happened since you posted about wanting to go to Death Valley last week? I just went back to see if I missed a post but didn't see where you wrote anything about your heart other than the Erythritol post but that didn't mention anything specifically that I saw. Hope you are OK and are getting the proper care you need!! I'm a bit bummed you aren't thinking of doing the Death Valley trip anymore, that sounded like such a fun (and HOT HOT HOT) adventure for you guys!
ReplyDeleteI hope you find someone to help with your freezer. That one guy sounds pretty sketchy so I don't blame Tommy for not wanting him around! Whatever happened to your LDS Missionaries? Maybe they could help? At least you don't have to defrost it - that's my least favorite chore & our huge upright freezer as well as the two other freezers all need a good defrosting which I have been procrastinating like no other ;)
When I bought my Pandemic-Era freezer, I made sure I bought an upright. I know who I am, and I am not a person who defrosts a dang freezer once a year! No siree. Not happening. I cannot imagine the incredible hassle of unloading it, defrosting it, and bending over into it trying to mop out all the water. Just thinking about it makes me both exhausted and angry! LOL!
DeletePS: Omigod, your comment:
Delete"I am not a carnival ride."
Linda, I swear I spit my coffee all over my computer screen, laughing at that one! You are comedy gold! It is now my fulltime job to figure out how to use that expression in a conversation. Endless LOLs!!!!!!!!
Sue,
DeleteI have a more succinct and pointed remark I could have used...
Sue,
DeleteI am not capable of doing all that even if it were fun.
"I have a more succinct and pointed remark I could have used..."
DeleteWell, of COURSE I am dying to know what it is!!!!
Well, of COURSE I cannot say that here! Email me for anything more.

I suppose there isn't some nice college student for hire to help with these sort of chores?
ReplyDeleteI prefer to have someone I know or one who is recommended rather than just a college student. I am still asking around.
DeleteI need to defrost my chest freezer in the next couple of months. I did it last year and found a lot of out of code items. I was planning to toss them but my son knew people who were in need of food.
ReplyDeleteI recently had an energy audit through the utilities company. With my son living here, and his receiving ebt assistance we qualify to have my 31 year old side by side refrigerator replaced with a new one! The new one is a freezer on the top model. They brought it about 10 days ago and unfortunately it did not fit the space. The plan was to bring a smaller one early next month this smaller one would leave a 6 inch gap on the side. After speaking with the kind service rep last week they are going to bring a side by side in the next month or so. I can't tell you how happy I am to receive that news.
My current fridge is still running. I believe this is because I have faithfully vacuumed the coils every 4 or 5 months. The coils are accessed from the front and this necessitates lying on the floor with a flashlight, a long brush (made for this job) and the vacuum cleaner hose. I can still preform this task but getting up off the floor has become more and more difficult!
Janet,
ReplyDeleteThat was kind of you to give away the food and good that your son was willing to help out. I am quite sure the food was okay. One time my ex brought home food from a church member. The corn was seven years out of date. I refused to eat it. He demanded the corn be boiled for him. I did and refused to allow the children to have any. He bit into the corn. It no longer had any texture and was just mush like applesauce.
That is great about the refrigerator. Good news. I think I will try that. Tommy has never vacuumed the coils on this refrigerator--40 years! I vacuumed mine faithfully, too.
That getting up from the floor is the key to doing some things...lol. Maybe you can keep it from getting worse. It started with me not being able to put pressure on one knee and has gotten worse.
I have a knee replacement in my future. I am currently in the midst of a dental surgery with 3 new implant posts. I am on a soft diet for the next few months....... probably until October! I can do this with very little complaint. I am told that as long as my food can be cut with a fork it is okay. Of course there is a long to do and don't do list which is helpful. I eat probably 85% vegetarian so things that require a knife are rare in my diet. Once the dental stuff is done I will move towards the knee. Probably after the first of the year.
DeletePlease say Hi to my friend Tommy!
Janet,
DeleteYou are on a real schedule to better health. I cooked some chicken I could not slice because it just fell apart. I can eat chicken breast three times a day with no problems. The doctor told me ten or more years ago that the next thing for me knee was a knee replacement. But, losing weight would solve the knee problem. I will never have that done!
Tommy said "hey" to you and laughed as he said it. Also, hello.
